AEON Fantasy, a subsidiary of AEON Co. of Japan, spent more than MYR$9 million to build the group’s first kids theme park, “Fanpekka”, in AEON Tebrau City. The opening of “Fanpekka” indicates that four famous theme parks would be sited in Johor Bahru by the end of 2016. The other three are Legoland, Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park (Sanrio Hello Kitty Town) and “Angry Birds Activity Park”.
Located in the extended area of AEON Tebrau City, “Fanpekka” spans an area of 27,500 square feet and went into operation on October 27, 2016. Fanpekka adopts the Finnish concept of learning through playing. Providing a kids castle handmade experience center and more activities, the theme park aims to stimulate children’s creativity and encourage them to learn problem-solving skills while playing. AEON Co. noted that including “Fanpekka”, the group is targeting to open another three to five theme parks in Malaysia with each park encompassing at least 25,000 to 30,000 square feet.
The Johor Bahru district of Malaysia enjoys a promising outlook with various construction projects in progress and well-known theme parks have moved there one after another.
According to AEON Malaysia, “AEON Fantasy” chose AEON Tebrau City to open its first “Fanpekka” in Southeast Asia because it believed Johor has the advantages of being a theme park hub and has various projects in the pipeline. For example, the Ibrahim International Business District and the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed rail will provide the impetus for the region’s development and boost the quality of life and spending power of locals.
