VR/AR - a bright spot at CES |
Following the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which kicked off on January 5, 2017 in Las Vegas, USA, the Internet of Vehicles, drones and VR have become the new technologies that are worth the most attention in 2017 and are also regarded as vital turning points in the history of consumer technologies. In addition to tech powerhouses like HTC, Sony, Samsung and Microsoft, CES 2017 saw more than 70 VR and 20 AR exhibitors, which has doubled compared with last year.
Driven by an explosion of interest in VR/AR across the world, related technologies and applications have stolen the limelight at all exhibitions.
This time Taiwanese companies also had a dominant presence at the CES stage with HTC and ASUS showcasing VR/AR applications, and Sercomm and Delta Electronics presenting new Internet of Things products and projectors; the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan participated in CES for the first time, displaying a multitude of consumer electronics related technology developments including the Intelligent Vision System for Robots and the ICT Solution for Drones.
This year’s CES unveiled future trends. Mobile VR will become the mainstream and the markets of smartphone-based VR and All-in-One PC will be blooming. VR/AR content will be on the rise continuously; besides the hardware technologies, developers will continue to develop applications and platforms and the film, television and entertainment-oriented VR applications and the cosmetology marketing-specific AR applications are gradually making their way into people’s lives. Moreover, innovative technologies have emerged one after another, including micro eyeball projection technology and haptic feedback technology; AR applications account for an increasing proportion of AR/VR inventions with the number of AR hardware and content developers continuously on the rise.
