The Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province held the “Provincial Working Conference on Culture and Tourism Industry 2019” in Guangzhou on November 30, 2019. The main task of this meeting was to convey and implement the work deployment of the cultural and tourism industry development of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China (MCT), summarize and review the development of the cultural and tourism industry of our province since the institutional reform, further unify the thought, improve the understanding, deploy and promote the work of the culture and tourism industry of Guangdong province in the next stage. At the same time, the meeting also announced the list of “Provincial Cultural Industry Demonstration Parks 2019” and the list of “Qualification to Establish Demonstration Park 2019”. Guangdong Game & Amusement Culture Industry City (GD Game City) is the only one in Zhongshan identified as the provincial demonstration park of culture industrial park. At present, there are totally 28 Provincial Cultural Industry Demonstration Parks in Guangdong province.
Zhongshan is the birthplace of China's game industry. Zhongshan Yangtze River Park, the first large-scale integrated amusement park jointly built by a Sino-foreign joint venture in China, was established in 1983. then the earliest amusement machine manufacturer in China was born. After more than 30 years of development, Zhongshan has become an important production and export base of the Chinese game and entertainment industry. Thus, Zhongshan has been successively identified as ‘China Game and Entertainment Industry Base’, ‘Guangdong Animation and Game Industry Cluster (Zhongshan Base)’, ‘Guangdong Torch Plan Game and Entertainment Industry Base’, and ‘China Culture and Entertainment Industry Base’.
GD Game City started its construction in July 2014. In October 2014, GD Game City was awarded the prize of ‘Zhongshan Cultural and Creative Industry Park’; in 2015, GD Game City was listed as a key construction project in Guangdong province; in September 2017, it was awarded the qualification to become a provincial cultural industry demonstration park. After two years, in October 2019, GD Game City passed the on-site review by the Provincial Department of Experts Group and won this honor. With the implementation of the national strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as the formal inclusion of Gangkou Town into the central urban area planning and the selection of the first batch of characteristic towns in Zhongshan, Guangdong Game Entertainment Culture Town and GD Game City will usher in a new development opportunity.
