Malaysian Kelantan Government denies issuing licenses for gambling (2010/07/05) |
The government of Kelantan, a state of Malaysia, has not issued any licenses for gambling in the state, said Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, the state executive councilor for local government, tourism and culture.
He said illegal gambling activities may be taking place and urged anyone with knowledge of this to report the matter to the state government. "We stopped issuing licenses for gambling in 1990 and do not have any plans whatsoever to issue such licenses in future," Hassan told reporters.
He was responding to remarks by Kelantan Umno Youth chief Anuar Safian who had alleged that gambling and 4-digit betting was widespread in Kelantan, which is ruled by PAS, an Islamic party.
