HTC and Shenzhen Government cooperate strategically to establish VR Fund

On November 17, 2016 HTC and the Shenzhen Municipal Government signed the “Shenzhen Municipal Government and HTC Corporation Strategic Cooperation Agreement”.  The Shenzhen Municipal Government will support HTC to establish the “China VR Research Institute and the two parties will jointly launch the “Shenzhen VR Industry Investment Fund” reaching up to RMB$10 billion in scale.  Besides related leaders from Guangdong Province and Shenzhen City, HTC Chairperson Cher Wang, HTC Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer David Chen, and Head of HTC Vive China Wang Tsung-ching also attended the signing ceremony.

The Shenzhen Municipal Government and HTC signed a VR-related strategic cooperation agreement to establish a RMB$10 billion VR Industry Investment Fund and kick off the China VR Research Institute.

In the strategic cooperative agreement, the two parties proposed that the Shenzhen Municipal Government support HTC to found the “China VR Research Institute” and jointly launch the “Shenzhen VR Industry Investment fund”.  As early as the period from June to October 2016, HTC assisted the Science and Technology Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality to create the action plan for promoting VR technological innovation and application in Shenzhen’s VR industry (2016-2020).  The cooperation has laid a foundation for the two parties to further work together to promote the development of VR.

HTC has been dedicated to promoting the global VR ecosystem to develop at a fast pace.  In April 2016, the company announced a venture support program – Vive X Accelerator Program to global VR teams.  The first wave of the program activated in August 2016 in four cities including Taipei, San Francisco, Beijing and Shenzhen.  The second batch of recruitment would stop on December 1, 2016 and VR startups interested in joining the program could visit the official website of Vive X to apply.  2016/12, No.149 GTI
