Taiwan’s largest Ferris wheel, “Sky Dream”, has officially come into service on May 13, 2017 in Lihpao Land theme park. Vice Chairman Chen Chih-hong of Lihpao Group noted that “Sky Dream” is the only Ferris wheel designed with tension structure in Taiwan and in scale, is like the London Eye of the UK. Launching its trial operation after going through strict safety tests, “Sky Dream” will allow tourists to feel spectacular turning in the sky and bring Taiwan a whole new observational experience. Lihpao Land Manager Wang Yung-hao said “’Sky Dream’, as one of the world’s top 10 largest Ferris wheels, spans 120 meters in diameter and stands at 384 meters above sea level, same as the height of the Indoor Observation Deck of Taipei 101 Building on the 88th story. The Ferris wheel has a total of 60 passenger cars with each car accommodating a maximum of 8 people and runs at a pace of 25 minutes per revolution. The seats in the passenger cars can be folded to allow space for a wheelchair or stroller. In addition, the services of USB charging and free Chunghwa Telecom wifi access are offered to let passengers indulge in live broadcast, check-in and to share the “highest” level of fun with friends and family when they are high up in the air.
Wang Yung-hao pointed out that “Sky Dream” is located in Taichung, the center of Taiwan, and when it rises to 384 meters above sea level, in the daytime passengers can overlook the Taiwan Strait and the Snow Mountain Range and view multiple scenic spots, including Haoyan Mountain, Yamay Sugar Factory, Gaomei Wetlands, a Thousand-Year Old Camphor Tree, and Houli Horse Ranch. At night the bright city lights, the sky dotted with stars and the magnificent bejeweled disc-like Ferris wheel together constitute the most romantic scene.
Lihpao Group invested NT$55 million to erect Taiwan’s largest Ferris wheel – “Sky Dream”. This Ferris wheel was given to Lihpao Group by Evergreen Group and was shipped to Taiwan from Japan utilizing 121 containers on 13 trips by sea. It took almost three years starting from July 2014 to assemble the Ferris wheel and involved close to 10,000 engineering workers to overcome spoke tension adjustment, which was an extremely difficult project. “Sky Dream” is predicted to attract 1 million riders in one year of its operation. This record-breaking new landmark together with Taiwan’s largest water and land dual amusement park, five-star hotel, road station and international racing park will hopefully drive the resort’s total revenue up to NT$6 billion.
