China’s Zhongshan OCT Harbour, with master planning and design by LWK + PARTNERS, broke ground on 15 June 2020, and is envisioned to serve as a dynamic recreational destination and emerge in the west coast of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Lai Zehua, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Li Changchun and Xu Xiaoli, municipal leaders, Yao Jun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of OCT Group, and Zhang Liyong, Deputy General Manager of OCT.
At present, Zhongshan is promoting the "Key Construction Project in 2020" in Guangdong Province. In the "Zhongshan Business Development Plan (2019-2035)". Zhongshan OCT Harbour is the core of the business center of the future Zhongshan Center group theme tourism area. The construction of Zhongshan OCT Harbour at this time is a positive response and implementation seizing the important historical opportunity of "double zone drive" and revitalizing the power of Zhongshan. Zhongshan OCT Harbour is on the strategic location of the OCT Group in the Bay Area, connecting Guangzhou and Foshan in the north, Jiangmen and Zhuhai in the west, facing Shenzhen and Hong Kong in the east, and Macau in the south. Zhongshan OCT Harbour and the rising Qijiang New Town coincides with Zhongshan Municipal Government's urban cultural and tourism industry policy of "Strengthening Support for the Cultural and Tourism Industry, Promoting the Construction of Large-scale Cultural and Tourism projects in Qijiang New Town, and Promoting the Development of Characteristic Cultural Industry".
Zhongshan OCT Harbour is located in the core area of Shiqi District, Zhongshan, reaching Xinggang Road South in the east, Qifeng Road in the west, Shiqi River in the south, and Beihuan Road in the north. It is only 500m away from Zhongshanbei Railway Station and surrounded by high-speed traffic networks such as Guangzhou-Zhuhai West Expressway and Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, which can connect Guangzhou-Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao and other key cities in the Bay Area. In the future, there will be Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel and Guangzhou-Zhongshan metro and there will be some supporting facilities for business, leisure, education and medical care within 5km of Zhongshan OCT Harbour.
With an investment of $1.13bn, Zhongshan OCT Harbour will have a theme park, retail areas, residences, hotel accommodation, entertainment facilities and offices across both sides of the river, creating a diversified commercial, recreational and living experience on a rich, eco-friendly landscape. As the project develops, a respect for nature, local culture and Lingnan aesthetics gradually unfolds.
Land has always been shaped by water that goes around it. Zhongshan OCT Harbour is set to shed new light on Zhongshan’s waterscapes and local culture, building on the existing river links to provide nature-oriented public space and recreational venues for all. A vibrant community is coming to life in this large-scale cultural and leisure complex, bringing the Greater Bay Area city on track towards health and livability. Concerns for ecological conservation and healthy living are rooted in the project to promote a new urban lifestyle with diverse waterscapes and built spaces in an area undergoing regeneration. Spanning a site of nearly 300,000 square metres, the project is scheduled to open in 2023. (2020/07, 188G) |
